Transparency – Whatever we do, we will communicate the truth while maintaining the integrity and privacy of our subjects.
Validity – We will not fabricate stories to increase the number of 'clicks' or views on a video. We seek to validate the content of any case and report on the conclusions of any investigation, regardless of whether or not they support a popular hypothesis.
Unconscious Bias – This could nearly be confused for a principle from a human resources guidebook, but we utilise it in the context of an investigation's findings. It makes no difference what your religious beliefs, socioeconomic standing, skin colour, or who you want to have a relationship with are. None of these factors influence the outcome. It will be founded on facts and findings, and it may bring new insights into areas where science has been unwilling to enter.
SEPI Officer Code of Ethics
As we come from a policing background, the policing Code of Ethics is also central to us and how we conduct ourselves. The main policing principles are;
Fairness – We will endeavour to always be fair in our conduct and outcomes.
Honesty – This is central to us and is important that we are honest with others as we expect them to be to the agency.
Integrity – Again, without this, the agency has no basis to operate on.
Leadership – We will lead the way where others are hesitant to follow and inspire others to do the same.
Authority, respect & courtesy – In terms of authority, we want all those who work with us to respect our abilities and the value we offer to an investigation or case, just as we will do in return. Respect and civility are essential characteristics of any good human being.
Equality and diversity – It's pretty simple if you don't fuel today's 'woke' agenda. Everyone, no matter who or what they are, has worth and something to offer. It's as simple as that.
Use of force – This is one policing principle we do not include as we will not use policing powers within any investigation.
Orders and Instructions – All SEPI Officers will respect each other's orders and directions, acknowledging their particular position within the agency. It's how we help each other do investigations by sharing different perspectives based on our experiences and knowledge.
